South Australian designer Tori-Anne Gill launches Highland, the latest collection from her Dark Thorn label, which made its debut at this year's Paris Fashion Week.
Paying homage to the fashions of the 18th century Scotland and reminiscent of Outlander, Highland is inspired by Tori-Anne's recent trip to the land of her ancestry. Here she fell madly in love with the country's landscapes, history and culture.
"Highland is inspired by the culture of the Scottish Highlands in the 18th century and embraces Black Watch tartan which is woven in Scotland from 100% British wool.
"Black Watch tartan is named after the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment, The Black Watch, whose role it was to patrol the Highlands and keep the peace," says Tori-Anne
"I used Black Watch in this collection as it is a tartan anyone can wear, whether they have a family tartan or not," she adds.
The Black Watch tartan pieces include a 100% wool reinvented kilt with pleats, a modern frill and a brass kangaroo leather buckle and a lace up vest with scooped peplum to give the perfect silhouette.
The Davina Coat in Black Watch tartan features a three quarter sleeve, high military style neck and silver statement buttons while the Blair Blouse combines a tartan bodice with a lace up back and over-sized lace sleeves with tartan cuffs and covered buttons.
The 100% wool Black Watch tartan high-waisted trousers with pockets and pleat details are also available in black.
The tartan pieces are completed by romantic silk and cotton dresses, blouses and wide leg pleated pants.
Highland was launched at the Le Grand Intercontinental Paris as part of Oxford Fashion Studio's show featuring the best emerging fashion designers from around the world.
Launched in 2015 Dark Thorn is known for its sophisticated and moderns reimaging of historic fashion particularly the Victorian Era.
Designer Tori-Anne is a slow and ethical fashion advocate ensuring she uses sustainably sources materials and her garments are made under high quality work health and safety standards and fair pay.
Highland will be released in April 2019 and is currently available for pre-order.
